Remains of rocket which exploded in United States found off Scilly

A British man has found a chunk of debris from the U.S. SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket by an archipelago on the southwestern tip of the United Kingdom.

SpaceX's Falcon-9 spacecraft catastrophically exploded shortly after launch this year. The markings of American flag on the debris suggested that it might be a part of the Falcon rocket.

In April, while the Dragon capsule reached the (ISS), its rocket didn't quite land on the intended ocean platform.

Martin Leslie, Coastal Area Commander for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed (via The Verge) that "a large section of alloy about 10 meters by 4 meters" was spotted floating in water between Bryher and Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.

Pete Hicks, one of the boatmen who helped recover the chuck of metal, "Towed in and beached a piece of flotsam earlier".

Part of an American rocket, used to deliver satellites into space, has been found in the sea off Tresco.

The recovered debris of the rocket was secured on the beach at Tresco after being towed into New Grimsby. "It looks like its an American rocket, and is similar to the unmanned SpaceX Falcon-9".

The company conducted an internal investigation into the explosion, which took place two minutes and 19 seconds after launch - about 27 miles into ascent.

"We're grateful for all those who helped in its recovery".
