Dash cam video shows danger of standing on road shoulder

A near-miss collision on a CT highway was recorded on a state police dash cam and shows how two people came just inches from being slammed.

Earlier this month a Colorado state trooper who had recently had her first child was killed on the shoulder of an interstate south of Denver in an alleged drunk driving incident.

State police dashboard camera footage captured a terrifying crash where a auto plowed into a vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 95 in CT, narrowly missing two people standing alongside the highway.

Upon arrival, Engine One reported a two-car motor vehicle accident with heavy damage in the center and right lanes.

As another state trooper was arriving at the crash site, he saw a Nissan Maxima speeding in front of him in the left lane, veering onto the right shoulder and "violently striking one of the vehicles involved in the original two-vehicle accident", state police said.

A Bridgeport man faces charges after State Police say he crashed into a disabled vehicle that had stopped along Interstate 95 this morning. The driver was transported to an area Hospital with serious injuries.

Rojas remained in custody on $2,500 bail early Friday and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Bridgeport later in the day.

CT law requires all motorists approaching emergency vehicles on a highway to reduce their speed below posted speed limit and move over one lane if it is safe to do so.

Rojas did sustain minor injuries.

Video of the scary scene was posted to the State Police's Facebook page, with troopers reminding drivers to move over if emergency vehicles are parked on the side of the road.
