Presidential Turkey Pardon 2015: Sasha & Malia Obama Feature Thanksgiving

That's an excerpt from "The Definitive History of the Presidential Turkey Pardon", published on the White House Blog about four years ago.

According to President Obama, in the event that Abe (aka the Turkey of the United States) "can't fulfill his duties to walk around and gobble all day, "Honest" is in an undisclosed location ready to serve in the TOTUS line of succession".

"AS you may have heard, for months, there has been a fierce competition between a bunch of turkeys trying to win their way into the White House", Obama said.

President Barack Obama spared two turkeys named for one of the nation's most admired presidents, continuing a White House tradition that provides a refreshing sense of amusement and bipartisan cheer no matter how troubled the times.

The president has faced criticism for his initial response to the Paris attacks, particularly his focus on chiding Republicans who called on him to be more aggressive in fighting Islamic State, the extremist group believed to be behind the deadly assault in France.

The first family also donated two turkeys from Jaindl Farms to the Capital Area Food bank in Washington, DC.

Defeating the terrorists, Obama said, is "going to be a process that involves hard, methodical work".

Sasha and Malia Obama have been accused by pundits in the media of not necessarily enjoying their annual role of backing up their dad during his pardoning of the National Thanksgiving Turkey-but the 2015 event seemed to evoke a more positive reaction from the First Daughters, at least when superficially compared to the 2014 pardon ceremony.

For the presentation, NTF said Douglas selected the Nicholas breed of turkey that originated in Sonoma Valley, typical of the broad-breasted white feathered variety produced by Aviagen Turkeys, Inc. 

"I know that Americans have been asking each other whether it's safe here, whether it's safe to fly or gather", the president continued.
