The senior European counterterrorism official told CNN on Thursday that the United Kingdom attack will come as a follow-up to the attacks in the French capital that left hundreds dead.

It is uncertain if the warning is related to Davis' capture, but it should be noted that this certain ISIS operative has been linked to "Jihadi John" and his arrest was laid out on the same day the Paris attacks were launched.

Intelligence obtained by European security agencies indicates that British ISIS fighters have been tasked by senior operatives in the so-called caliphate to return home to carry out the attack, the official told CNN.

Suraj Lakhani, lecturer in criminology and sociology specialising in radicalisation and violent extremism at Sussex University, fears that young British Muslims are being radicalised by British extremists.

He said: "There's always going to be a fear and a risk that this radicalisation we are seeing is happening within the UK".

Following the attacks in Paris on November 13 in which 130 people were killed and after the launch of air strikes on Syria this week, the United Kingdom remains on a high terror alert.
