NBC's 'Xena' Reboot Finds Writer in 'Lost' Alum

On paper, Raimi and Tapert are aiming to create a "sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation", and there are reportedly early plans in place for Xena: Warrior Princess to become an ongoing series once more, unlike the one-off revivals in the vein of Fox's The X-Files.

Lawless, who is married to Tapert, is not now involved in the NBC reboot. The new version is being developed by original co-creator (and Lawless' husband) Rob Tapert along with Sam Raimi for their company Ghost House Pictures in association with NBC International Television Studios.

On the one hand, the fans are surely excited about the news, and on the other, Lucy Lawless seems to support the project so we're all just hoping the reboot would really be worthy of Xena's reputation.

Emmy-wining writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost) has tapped for NBC's TV revival of Xena: Warrior Princess, according to Variety.

Unfortunately, original star Lucy Lawless isn't reprising her career-defining role. In whatever world you set it in, I think the friendship is what they're underestimating. "I think it's a great character, and we should try to figure out how to revive it somehow", Greenblatt said. If all goes well, Xena 2.0 should be smashing her way into our living rooms sometime around 2016.

Grillo-Marxuach's prolific writing career includes Charmed, The Chronicle, The Middleman, Helium, and most famously Lost (protip: if you're ever curious about how writing works, check out his lengthy essay reflecting back on his time on that show). It's still unclear how, or if, the new Xena will be connected to the old Xena.
