Arvind Kejriwal calls Rahul Gandhi "kid"

Since the demolition, the hutment dwellers are living in the open, at the site, under canvas tents.

Following this tweet, a war began among Congress leaders and AAP leaders and the Aam Aadmi Party claimed it as Congress is doing #SlumPolitics on Twitter. "But we will try to protect you, we will fight your battle", Gandhi had said. He even talked to the slum people and promised that they will provide every kind of assistance to them. However, the blame game has also brough Delhi Chief Minister face to face with Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to the media later, he accused the Delhi government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre for the razing of the slum and asserted that the law had been clearly broken during the demolition.

"If you don't coordinate, you will always end yourself in a situation like the recent removal of jhuggis from railway land".

AAP sources said the matter will be raised in the Rajya Sabha by TMC and JD(U).

"Act immediately to ensure that minimum need of decent shelter is provided to the homeless displaced population at Shakur Basti", the bench asked railways and Delhi government.

While the razing of the slum cluster in Shakur Basti area of Delhi raised political hackles, the Delhi high court also came down heavily on the action by the Railways. Were any arrangements made to rehabilitate these people?

The grieving father of the six-month-old baby insisted the girl died in the panic caused by the imminent demolition of the hutments.

The Chief Minister said that he had spoken to Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu, who was not "aware of this operation".

On Sunday, Kejriwal met Railway officials at his residence over the issue, but was unhappy with their response. Official data available with the railway ministry shows that in the last three years, it has been able to retrieve only 112 hectares across the country.

"What is not in dispute that in the demolition drive that commenced on December 12 at least 1,600 dwellings in Shakur Basti (West) Delhi near Madipur Metro Station were demolished".

Taking note that the counsel for railways failed to produce the relevant communication based on which police went to demolish the Shakur Basti slum on Saturday, the court asked them to file their report on plans to rehabilitate the residents before December 16. An infant allegedly died during the drive.

The demolition of shanties in the Belagaon area was reportedly carried out by Delhi Development Authority. "No assurance has been given about homes (rehabilitation), either", said Anwar.
