Carolina Panthers Absolutely Dominant in Win

Cam Newton is making a strong case for the MVP award this season as the quarterback of the undefeated Panthers.

Yesterday evening, the Carolina Panthers extended their run to 13-0 and the NFL and remain the only unbeaten team in the league with every other side losing at least two games. Exluding top target Kelvin Benjamin, who was lost in the offseason, the Panthers' receiving core of Ted Ginn-Jericho Cotchery-Devin Funchess-Philly Brown is fairly underwhelming. "But however you want to play the game, that's how we're going to give it to you".

It is true that throwing the ball into the stands during a game constitutes a $5,512 fine, but one is not fined for handing the ball to a fan in the stands. After starting the season 5-0, Atlanta is now 6-7 and in danger of missing the playoffs.

There really isn't much to say about Atlanta's performance this week, various adjectives come to mind: grotesque, disheartening, unpleasant, unacceptable, you get the picture. Their final games will have limited playoff implications, so it will be interesting to see whether they continue to fervently pursue perfection. They had a players-only meeting and vowed to turn things around.

FREEMAN READY TO ROLL: The Falcons are hoping to get Devonta Freeman back to playing at a high level. For the Panthers, it was only their sixth shutout in their 21 seasons as a franchise.

"Quite honestly, I'd be surprised if there wasn't anybody critical about what I decided", coach Ron Rivera said.

"It was important for us to come out fast and get touchdowns instead of field goals", said Newton, whose team had clinched the NFC South division title last week with a narrow win at New Orleans.

Cam Newton completed 15 of 21 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Panthers. A total of 66 of 72 previous teams that started the season 5-0 advanced to the playoffs.

JETS 30, TITANS 8: In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three touchdown passes, and New York's defense stifled the Tennessee offense as the Jets (8-5) won their third in a row.

The Carolina Panthers pounced out in front early in the game. "The (victories are) definitely earned". Only one went for a penalty - against Panthers cornerback Bene Benwikere. On the ground, Jonathan Stewart rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown in 10 attempts while Fozzy Whittaker added 34 yards and one touchdown in eight attempts. He was dealing with a foot injury. The book on the Panthers was that they will pound you with Stewart and try to go deep the Ginn and then kill you with intermediate routes to tight end Greg Olsen. The Rams held Detroit's Calvin Johnson to a late 16-yard catch, and Aaron Donald had three sacks of Matthew Stafford. But if they are going to lose, it would be best for them if it happened in the next few weeks, not in the playoffs. Quarterback Jay Cutler completed 19 of 31 passes for 315 yards and two touchdowns for the Bears (5-8), who dropped to 1-6 at home.

He had meetings with cornerback Robert Alford, who turned in a horrid game.

The Green Bay Packers eased to a 28-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys on the back of 230 yards rushing, including touchdowns for both James Starks and Eddie Lacy.

-Outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. recorded his third career sack in the third quarter. That ended the Bills quarterback's run of 222 passes without an interception.
