Motorhead frontman, rock icon 'Lemmy' Kilmister dead at 70

It said: "There is no easy way to say this... our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer".

Lemmy explained the appeal of his fierce brand of rock, describing it as "very basic music - loud, fast, city, raucous, arrogant, paranoid, speed-freak rock n roll".

"He will probably be sadly missed", Osbourne on Twitter late Monday.

Former drummer Taylor died only last month, prompting a typically laconic response from his old bandmate.

Queen guitarist said: "Sitting here, Re-Tweeting, distracted, and wondering what I can possibly say about our utterly unique friend Lemmy's passing". We're forever grateful for all of your inspiration.

With that being said, Dee added that being able to finish the tour was a fitting send-off for someone like Lemmy. "Thank you... This one was for Lemmy".

After cutting his teeth in beat bands in the 1960s, he spent time as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix before his first taste of stardom with British space rockers Hawkwind, singing the band's biggest hit, biker anthem Silver Machine, in 1972. See you down the road my friend...

Klimister's band Motorhead is well known for tracks like "" and "", which used as his intro music.

Founded in 1975, the band's legacy now comes to an end in 2015.

Other major songs included "Killed By Death", "Orgasmatron" and "Overkill".

A big lover of whisky and distinctive "mutton chops", he once claimed he stayed awake for two weeks on speed.

Kilmister was fascinated by military memorabilia and uniforms and his flat contained an impressive array of historic weaponry.

The rockstar also claimed to have slept with more than 1,000 women but never married.

FESTWICH organisers have pledged to mark the life of Motorhead singer Lemmy at next year's event, following his death on Monday.

Kilmister's recent cancer diagnosis had been preceded by a number of health problems over the last few years, during which he had a pacemaker installed and battled hematoma.

"When he went home he said, "I've had a good run, fuck it", and then more or less laid down and died", Mikkey Dee, whose real name is Micael Kiriakos Delaoglou, the country's Expressen tabloid.
