270lb man 'sits on son and suffocates him' whereas enjoying online game

Dearman is now being held without bond.

The dead boy's seven-year-old sibling witnessed the incident and, according to an affidavit, told investigators: "When dad squished him, he got dead".

An Englewood man is facing charges in connection with the suspicious death of his 6-year-old son, deputies say. Cole ran into the garage to pray, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police say the couple ignored the boy's screams claiming he couldn't breathe, but later noticed he had become lifeless and made a decision to call an ambulance. He was initially charged with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm before that charge was enhanced to aggravated manslaughter.

Dearman had used his weight to pin the child to the rear cushions of the couch, deputies said.

Responding deputies reported seeing bruising on the child's back, reports the station.

Paramedics arrived at the house in the Englewood area at about 10:10pm and took the boy to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors on Lord Street described themselves as shocked and heartbroken on Thursday to learn of the death of the 6-year-old boy they often would see playing outdoors with his sibling.

Five minutes later, the boy was motionless and Dearman and Cole went into the garage to smoke a cigarette, cops said. They returned 10 minutes later to discover he was not breathing, and his lips had turned blue.

The 7-year-old sibling was not injured and is in the protective custody of the Department of Children and Families. She said Dearman then pinned the boy against the couch using his bodyweight. No charges have been filed against Cole.

Dearman was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse.

"There's not a detective or anybody who isn't pretty upset about this and finds it egregious and malicious, the treatment of a 6-year-old child", Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Captain John Walsh told WFLA. A representative with the state attorney's office said the mother of the two children has been searching for Dearman for the past three years.

Dearman's prior arrest history also includes a 2008 arrest for desertion from the U.S. Navy.
