But it wasn't until recently that someone decided to make up an entire backstory for that particular photo of Demi - and it exploded online, as these things do.

An unflattering photo of Demi Lovato is taking the internet by storm, spawning ridiculous (and hilarious) conspiracy theories about the singer's supposed twin sister named Poot.

Who is Poot? According to the Tumblr user , who created and delivered her into the world - and has deleted their account since Poot went viral - she is "Demi's twin sister, separated at birth".

This isn't the first time that the secret sibling of a celebrity has been conjured out of thin air. But the origin story of Poot had been told, and that was all the Internet needed.

But what do we know of Poot Lovato, the shadowy figure who's spent years trapped in a basement?

The entire thing was all intended in good fun, probably, but once the meme gained traction with media outlets like E! Plus the occasional highly sexual Kanye , blamed on Demi.
