Verizon adds live TV to Fios Mobile app

Verizon FiOS customers can now take their TV to go.

The newly updated version of the FiOS mobile app lets users of FiOS Quantum TV and Internet services stream "nearly all" of their DVR-recorded shows from any remote location with an Internet connection. So long as you have a good enough Internet connection, you'll be able to watch those missed episodes of Modern Family you've been meaning to catch up on.

In addition to DVR streaming, Fios Quantum TV gives customers access to Verizon's most advanced DVR system with the ability to record up to 12 shows at the same time with up to 200 hours of HD recording capacity.

Cellphone company Verizon didn't choose the ideal time to launch a competitive service to your cable TV or satellite TV service.

As such, the DVR content of Verizon's FiOS subscribers has now become accessible from any network, virtually all over the world, from their mobile devices. But, rather than being restricted to just playing them back from your DVR in your living room or bedroom, you can now watch those recorded shows from your smartphone or tablet.

Fans will likewise be delighted to know that through the updated FiOS app, users are treated with an assortment of on-demand titles. The app also has a parental control lock.

"The latest innovations of the FiOS Mobile app are how today's consumers want to watch TV and view content", explained Susan Retta, Verizon's vice president of consumer marketing.

Comcast also offers a cloud DVR that provides out-of-home streaming access to recorded shows and a download option.
