Steve Harvey Reads Wrong Winner of Miss Universe Pageant: 'Horrible Mistake'

Gutierrez was incorrectly named the victor before Wurtzbach was given the Miss Universe crown.

Harvey - like any comedian flopping - made the best of a bad situation. Miss Universe Great Britain 2015, Narissara Nena France, could not make it to the top 15.

She says the mistake wasn't done purposely and "it was an honest mistake".

For a moment, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez savored wearing the precious crown after being announced the victor of the worldwide beauty competition but her victory was short-lived. Harvey took responsibility for the mistake.

"Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines", he added as the music began anew, with the Colombian contestant left like a deer in headlights and the actual victor, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, looking stunned and mouthing "What?" Miss Colombia cried and was crowned the victor by the reigning Miss Universe Paulina Vega.

Harvey first tweeted, "I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia".

Miss Colombia was first crowned the victor.

The real victor was Wurtzbach, who looked astonished by the sudden turn of events.

Contestants from Japan, Thailand, the Dominican Republic, Curacao and Venezuela aren't moving on to the question round. Donald Trump later sold 100 percent of his shares to William Morris who now owns the Miss Universe pageant.

Perez was asked by co-host Roselyn Sanchez what was different about this year's contest.

Trump's remarks about Mexicans in announcing his candidacy in June drew sharp criticism, and the Spanish-language network Univision pulled out of a deal to televise the pageant. The topics were on US cooperation in the Philippines the legalization of marijuana in Australia drug abuse in Colombia the fight against terrorism in France and gun control in the United States.

He followed up and said, "Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well".

After landing in the Final 3 together with Miss U.S.A. Olivia Jordan and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez-Arevalo had to hurdle one final challenge: a question from their fellow contestants dubbed by Harvey as the pageant's "sixth judge". "And I don't see any problem with that at all", went Pia's reply to the delight of her cheering Filipino fans in the audience.

It's the third time a contestant from the Philippines has won the title.

The crowd inside the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino theater responded with a mix of boos and cheers, while the women on staged stood in complete shock.
