UFC lightweights warn McGregor: You're going to get hurt

Last Saturday, McGregor held up his end of the bargain, knocking out Aldo in 13 seconds to become the undisputed featherweight champion.

The two men he could face for that belt are both warning him to pick on somebody his own size. That so happens to be Rafael Dos Anjos, who meets Donald Cerrone in Orlando this weekend.

As recalled, UFC president Dana White guaranteed Edgar a title shot, after he thumped out Chad Mendes in the first round on Friday night.

Dos Anjos and Cerrone dislike each other, but they agree McGregor's fists wouldn't pack quite so much punch in the larger weight class. "The guy says he would fight Frankie if Frankie took care of business". First was when Aldo got hurt [before UFC 189] and the UFC asked Chad [Mendes] 'Have you been training?' and he said no, he's been doing a hunting show.

According to Edgar's coach Mark Henry, if McGregor were to renege on his promise it would be the second time he has avoided the former lightweight champion, who offered to step in for the injured Aldo last July, only for the promotion to call on Mendes for UFC 189. "I took off and did a bunch of insane [expletive] so I'm still there", Cerrone said. His jaw is powerful. "It's all good. We got everything taken care of and there are no problems at all". He briefly spoke about a potential Edgar bout, but hasn't really focused his promotional efforts on such a bout the way he has the potential Aldo rematch or lightweight title fight. His vicious striking power has backed up his bold public pronouncements about taking over both divisions.

"I am delighted to honour Conor McGregor in his home city of Dublin and acknowledge his wonderful achievement in the sport of UFC". "I knew it was going to be tough to not be overshadowed this week", Edgar said. "I could do it, sure, but those guys are coming down from 200, 210 pounds".

One thing is for certain: McGregor is going to continue to make himself a wealthy man.

For a guy looking out for his wallet, there's no bigger fight than one that pits Cerrone against McGregor.

"I think I'm the worst matchup for him", Edgar said on the UFC 194 broadcast Saturday after McGregor defeated Jose Aldo. "If I could get whatever I want, I'd love to fight McGregor in Madison Square Garden on April 23 (for UFC 198)". I don't want him going anywhere. I go to kill or die. "Why not?" Cerrone asked. I came to stay and I want to become a lightweight legend. Why not? I'll show them Irish boys how to drink.

Never has he been as hot as he is heading into Saturday's bout with dos Anjos, who upset Anthony Pettis in March to win the title. "I said to him, 'Well, what's next?'" Kavanagh said. "Everything I did, I did the hard way".

"Maybe he's got one more fight at 145 before he goes to 155", Edgar told MMA Junkie.
