Netflix releases a new universal app for Windows 10

The Microsoft's digital assistant will take control of various operating systems' search features on Windows 10 after a switch from Windows Phone. For a show the Details view will give you specific information for an episode, while for a movie Details will suggest other content.

At last official count, Microsoft said Windows 10 had jumped out to 110 million active devices. Commands include "Cortana, launch Netflix" and "Netflix, find 'House of Cards'".

Since this is a universal application it has a responsive layout which optimizes the size and placement of icons based on the device the app is being used on, like a tablet or PC.

"We have published a new version of our Windows 10 app to the Windows Store".

The app has been rebuilt and redesigned from the ground up as a universal Windows 10 app, available for desktops and tablets now (with phones coming soon).

At least that's the idea in the long run - right now, it isn't quite ready for smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile.

"Netflix has always been one of the top apps on Windows and we were pleased they were one of the first partners to release an app for Windows 10", Microsoft expressed in a blog post. It's not a huge departure from the existing app, but the performance and user interface has improved. So if you weren't using it before, there's no better time than now to start. Netflix hasn't yet revealed even a tentative date for the Xbox One Netflix app release.

If there's one thing that really deserves to be praised in Windows 10, it is the fast update cadence of the built-in updates, as Microsoft rolls out new versions nearly daily. It supports vertical scrolling for categories and horizontal scrolling for titles within a category, making it easier to drill down and find what you're looking for.
