4.3-magnitude quake shakes Inland Empire — EARTHQUAKE

No injuries or damage were reported as of 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, Burguan tweeted.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a preliminary report that the magnitude-4.4 quake hit in... Neither U.S. nor Canadian officials have reported any injuries or significant damage, and the National Weather Service says there is no risk of tsunami along coastal regions. The agency is in the San Juan Islands, between Vancouver Island in British Columbia and mainland Washington.

Social media was deluged with individual reports of what the quake felt like, with some saying they first thought a vehicle slammed into their home. It was also measured at a depth of 50 km and there were no tsunami warning issued.

Vancouver's transit authority briefly shut down some of its Skytrain routes, to make sure there was no damage to elevated tracks.

According to USGS, the quake was the largest since a magnitude 4.9 shook Newport, Ore.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes from 2.5 to 3 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans.

Police on Vancouver Island and along the coast report high call volumes following the quake, but no reports of damage.

Although there have been recent natural disaster drills to prepare for a major quake, seismic upgrading for B.C. schools were pushed back 10 years to 2030 in March due to disagreements over the scope of repairs needed.
