May 'The Force Awakens' fashion be with you

We also know that Disney has made Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and it will probably make those billions back with this film and its sequels and everything else that Disney plans to do with it. Even though Lucas is not involved in this new Star Wars (which also deleted the Expanded Universe heavily established for years in the books that he personally oversaw), people still want to hear what George Lucas has to say about it. A recent interview with Charlie Rose revealed that he hated it, but he later apologized. The Universal title grossed an estimated $2.3 million from 2,962 locations for a total approaching $50 million.

Domestically, is the #1 movie of 2015 (passing Jurassic World's $652.3 million) and the #2 movie of all-time (soon to surpass Avatar's $760.5 million). The film is estimated to make $92M to $93M for its 3rd weekend which might be massively profitable numbers for many different films opening weekends.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" finished Wednesday with $1.29 billion worldwide, slipping past "Frozen's" $1.28 billion to become the eighth-highest grossing film of all time.

JJ Abrams" latest film has "only' made $686.4 million in the U.S., behind both The Phantom Menace ($730.4 million) and Return of the Jedi ($697.3 million), adjusted for inflation.

It's still got a long way to go to beat the film's global record of over $2.7 billion as the highest grossing film of all time.

In other box office news, Paramount's hit comedy Daddy's Home eased only 25% over the New Year holiday weekend.

Paramount Pictures' comedy "Daddy's Home" came in at number-two for the second week in a row, beating out the new releases and earning $29M at the domestic box-office.

Quentin Tarantino's bloody Western "The Hateful Eight", meanwhile, took third with $16.2 million in its first weekend in wide release after a strong limited debut. The current total for the $30 million production stands at $61.7 million.

Expect for "The Force Awakens" to dominate the second weekend of 2016.

In fifth place, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" earned an estimated $4.4 million on Friday for a total of $60 million, while David O. Russell's "Joy", starring Jennifer Lawrence, placed sixth with an estimated $4 million and an eight-day total of $32.3 million. The only big competition it will have is Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Revenant" going into wide release.
