Ole Miss students charged in beating of fellow student

According to WFLA, Tucker Steil, James Basile, Christian Guy, Kyle Hughes, and Austin Rice, of the Pi Kappa Alpha frat, allegedly snuck into rival fraternity house Sigma Pi on the night of October 6 and beat up a kid named Jeremy Boyle.

James Declan Basile is charged with simple assault, hazing and larceny - all misdemeanors.

Three other students, Christian Guy, Kyle Hughes and Austin Rice, have been charged with larceny.

The victim's father said the men, later identified as freshman students and members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, assaulted him after Boyle approached them about moving the statue. Steill was charged with felony assault. The Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/1W7r2Qb) reports that Steil posted $10,000 bail and was released from the Lafayette County jail.

A group of fraternity members accused of beating another student "within an inch of his life" grinned for the cameras while booked on a slew of charges, one including felony assault. His alleged attackers are accused of hazing, petty larceny, assault, and assault causing bodily injury.

"It was shocking. There is a different culture in the South. People have good behavior".

Ole Miss officials say the investigation is ongoing and they can't comment on internal disciplinary proceedings.

A member of Jeremy's fraternity said that Sigma Pi was letting the family deal with the situation, while Pi Cappa Alpha president Gunther Kenudston denied his fraternity had any involvement in the incident.

Jeremy Boyle was treated for his injuries at the Baptist Medical Hospital.

The victim's grandfather, Robert Boyle, said: "You must realise that no male or female is safe on campus while you allow these kinds of brutal thugs to roam freely".

Based on the institution's guidelines, once the report regarding this assault is filed to the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, it is analyzed by a review committee.

Students are speaking out about the actions of Pi Kappa Alpha.

The report indicates the students were also referred to the university's Judicial Council for discipline.
