United Kingdom police raid Tiananmen survivor's home over Xi protest

We know that during this state visit the United Kingdom has been ignoring human rights in China.

Another man, Shao Jiang, a Chinese democracy activist and Tiananmen Square survivor, was also arrested at Mansion House.

"This looks like a very heavy-handed response to a peaceful demonstration, " said Allan Hogarth of Amnesty global UK.

Two women were also apprehended by police at the events, the activists, named as Sonam Choden and Jamphel Lhamo, both from London, reportedly attempted to wave Tibetan flags at President Xi's passing auto, before similarly being dragged away by police.

"The policing of the state visit - including this part of the operation - was a matter for the police and to suggest we were doing anything but the regular police work associated with public order and ceremonial events is wrong", a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said.

Tiananmen Square massacre survivor Shao Jiang holds a sign as a group gathers in Trafalgar Square.

Another protestor said people, who appeared to be Chinese security officials, had manhandled her during the protest while in the presence of United Kingdom police.

She said she was shocked at the arrest and compared the United Kingdom police action to that of Chinese authorities.

The women were arrested on Wednesday afternoon close to Mansion House, where Mr Jinping was attending a UK-China business summit. They were Amnesty global signs calling for the Chinese to end the crackdown.

"The police here in the United Kingdom are now doing the same things as in China", she added.

Tibetan exile groups have also reacted with anger following the arrest of two women shortly after Shao for waving a Tibetan flag near Xi's auto, and had their homes searched while they were under arrest.

Of course, this is not the first time that Tibetans have been arrested overseas. The homes of all three were searched and they were bailed on Thursday after being detained overnight as the investigation continues.

Tsering Passang, Chair of the Tibetan Community in Britain, issued a statement saying, "As a British Tibetan, I am shocked that the Met Police would arrest peaceful protesters". "It feels like it is happening again, but unlike campaigners in China I have been able to speak to a lawyer who can defend my rights". "He was protesting peacefully", she said.

An outspoken critic of China's human rights record, he had earlier called for British politicians to be "bold in raising concerns over "widespread human-rights abuses" in China". Perhaps it is time that we should focus a few of our concentration on our own civil liberties at the same time as we criticize others for their stance on human rights, " he added.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the arrest of three demonstrators.

London police said they could not confirm the identity of those arrested, but said officers had detained a man and two women to prevent a breach of the peace and they had been further arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit threatening behavior.
