The Eagles spoiled the shutout with a 29-yard field goal by Mike Knoll in the third quarter, then pulled within 23-10 on a 3-yard touchdown run by fullback Richard Wilson with just over 8 minutes left. It was Virginia Tech's third trip into BC territory in as many possessions. Virginia Tech is underachieving-again-for Frank Beamer, dropping four of its last five, including a four-overtime heartbreaker to Duke a week ago.
