Bulgaria's Dimitrov Loses to Nadal in Basel

Rafael Nadal has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors Basel tournament by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in three sets 6-4 4-6 6-3.

Dimitrov shot out of the blocks in the first set, breaking Nadal in the opening game but the Spaniard soon broke back and then clinched another break to seal the set.

Having lost his first service game of the match, Nadal immediately put himself on the back foot however, as the opening set progressed, so did Nadal's game place and he was able to take advantage of two service games that Dimitrov had lost and he punished him taking it at 6-4.

Nadal's chances of a fighback were dented as he double-faulted to lose the first game of the third.

Against the 52nd-ranked Gabashvili, Nadal has a 4-0 win-loss record.

Dimitrov fell short in his pursuit of a fourth straight Basel quarter-final. "I try to work on the things that I believe to do in the important moments, hoping that little by little I do it more automatic".

Wawrinka, the world number four and reigning French Open champion, won the first set against big-serving Ivo Karlovic.

South African Kevin Anderson, seeded fourth, beat Croatian Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2.

Jack Sock won the all-American clash when he swept past Denis Kudla 6-4 6-2 and Teymuraz Gabashvili needed three sets to sink Leonardo Mayer.

"I'm not even sure if you're allowed to do it, but if you're not, you can always ask me".

"It's no surprise he's willing to be approached by the kids for a "selfie"-he's incredibly generous and always makes time for his fans", Tiley told Melbourne's Herald Sunday".
