UC Merced stabbing suspect was from Santa Clara

University officials have also said that there is no evidence to believe it was "in any way related to terrorism".

Merced Couty Sheriff Vern Warnke confirmed the identity of the 18-year-old student to the Sun-Star early Thursday.

"Meanwhile, we have brought in resources from across the University of California system to provide counseling to our students, faculty and staff. No one in our campus community has been untouched by this tragic event".

'May Allah accept him, ' read the tweet in Arabic just minutes after Mohammad's name was divulged by campus authorities. "Walking to class, I never saw him walk with anybody", Velasquez said.

Stabbings involving multiple victims on college campuses have not raised as much alarm as mass shootings because the attacks do not usually result in as many deaths or injuries.

A high school buddy in Santa Clara, California expressed shock that Mohammad stabbed four people.

She heard two shots and turned to see the officer standing over Mohammad's body.

Mohammad was a computer science and engineering major who has been described as a loner. Police shot and killed him.

Those who did know Mohammad before the stunning violence said he resisted making friends, but still appeared lonesome.

Price rushed in, distracted the attacker and got stabbed.

Officials said Mohammad attacked one of the students inside a classroom before he was being confronted by Price, who was also attacked.

He looked like he was having fun.

"There is still nothing to indicate anything, and I mean anything, that this is anything other than a teenage boy that got upset with fellow classmates and took it to the extreme", he said.

A Twitter account associated with the terrorist group ISIS praised Faisal Mohammad, 18, for the stabbing attacks carried out on November 4 at the University of California, Merced.

Mohammad charged at police with his hunting knife when they finally arrived on scene, and was then finally dispatched by a "good guy with a gun".

Outside the classroom, the suspect attacked a female staff member and slightly injured the second student, Warnke said.

Byron Price tells Fresno news station KSEE-TV ( http://bit.ly/1XSY2ON ) that he opened the classroom door at the University of California, Merced, thinking he was going to break up a fistfight. He says those inside shouted at him to run.

Warnke told nothing in Mohammad's personal history, electronic devices or personal items 'indicate there is any political or religious motivation'.

Price was stabbed in the side but says he was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital. He plans to head back to work on campus, where he was helping remodel a waiting room.

"The fortunate part is that we've got a few very courageous students, we have a very fearless construction worker that stopped this from going on", Warnke said.

A male student stabbed and wounded four people Wednesday on a university campus in north-central California before being shot dead, campus police said.

Mohammad then ran out of the building.

'You see this stuff all over the news and stuff and you see it happen to all these other schools, ' but you don't expect it to happen at your school, he said.
