Basildon stabbing: 13-year-old girl among 5 arrested over Darren Kelly murder

Darren Kelly, 42, staggered to a nearby block of flats and pressed the buzzers, begging: "Help me, I've been stabbed". A post mortem examination provisionally found he died from stab wounds and blood loss.

Detectives investigating the murder of Darren Kelly today arrested a 13-year-old girl from Basildon.

Essex Police confirmed a 20-year-old man from Pitsea, a 16-year-old boy from Basildon, a 15-year-old girl from Pitsea, a 13-year-old girl from Pitsea, and a 17-year-old boy from Pitsea had been arrested on suspicion of murder and are now in custody.

"When I answered he said "help me I've been stabbed". They need to be locked up and throw away the key". "Anyone that knows anything call the police straight away".

"I'm just in shock and so sad we couldn't do more".

Unemployed John Rawlinson, 52, who lives in the section of the street which was cordoned off, said: "I remember it was about 10.30pm and I was just finishing watching a DVD".

Essex Police said they believed he had been involved in an altercation before he was stabbed.

'I cut the man's clothes to reveal the wounds and she did what she could until the ambulance came'.

"He was passing out and couldn't talk".

She wrote on Facebook: "Need to get these disgusting people found".

The murder investigation is being led by Det Chief Insp Simon Werrett of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

"I've no idea why he'd be on that estate at that time of night".

Today forensics officers were examining several different locations, including several patches of blood.

Essex Police said she is among five people in custody over the stabbing of 42-year-old Darren Kelly on Tuesday night.

"That's all I know".

Gary Jones, 46, said: "We were watching television at the time and didn't hear anything".

An appeal for witnesses to the brutal attack, which happened in a residential area, has been made by police.
