PlayStation 4 Remote Play Release Date for PC and Mac

Streaming PS4 game data through a compatible Wi-Fi network, Remote Play proved to be a major selling point of the PlayStation Vita when the PlayStation 4 officially launched two years ago.

According to a new report, Sony PlayStation 4 sales have surpassed 30 million units - 30.2 million to be exact.

Sony introduced Remote Play with its PlayStation Portable console, giving the device the ability to link up with a PlayStation 3 for streaming of selected titles.

Fans of the DualShock 4 are hopeful the app release will be accompanied by official drivers for Mac and PC, allowing them to more easily play non-Sony games with the popular game pad. A developer who operates under the name "Twisted" is behind this app. It brought PS4 to PC streaming to reality, but it came at a price.

There have been no overall sales figures for the Xbox One, the PS4's closest competitor, since last November, when Microsoft said it had sold 10 million units.

The console helped Sony book its highest second quarter operating profit in eight years. It is essential for a game to be available for Remote Play, unless it is played with PlayStation Move, or another peripheral device.

PlayStation's Remote Play function is to be coming to Windows and Mac operating systems, thanks to a recent tweet from Sony's . Microsoft still holds the edge in this area for a while at least while Sony plays catch-up with the new features of the Xbox One New Experience update.

There are no further details yet on how the service will work for PC and Mac owners.
