White Sox trade Micah Johnson and Trayce Thompson for Todd Frazier

The All-Star third baseman was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday as part of a three-team, seven-player trade that also included the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers reportedly receive prospects Frankie Montas, a right-handed pitcher and second baseman Micah Johnson from the White Sox along with Thompson. All have upside, but none seem to have the star potential that a team would ideally desire in a return for one of the game's best third basemen. Third base was a dearth of production for them previous year, so this trade not only solidifies the offense, but the defense as well. 255 with 35 homers and 89 RBI last season. He made his major-league debut in July and was called up for an extended stay in September, going 9-for-36 (.250) with three home runs and four runs batted in on the year.

One more to New Jersey: Frazier becomes a free agent in 2018. "I can't wait to play on the play on the South Side of Chicago".

Though there are many pieces involved, the headliner of the deal is obviously Frazier, who has drawn strong trade interest from teams like the Royals and so far this winter.

"First off I'd like to thank the Reds fans for their support over the last five years, you guys will always have a special place in my heart", Frazier tweeted.

The White Sox from the Red Sox in the Jake Peavy deal initially acquired him, since developing into a very good prospect.

Frazier is a career. 256 and totaling 9 home runs and 39 RBIs. In 2013, he was the Dodgers' minor league player of the year after hitting. Montas was much more dominant in the minors a year ago, posting a 2.97 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 112 innings over 23 AA starts.

The Dodgers view Trayce Thompson, who can play center field, as someone who could contribute in their major leagues in the upcoming season. The second-round draft pick appeared in 44 games, hitting.
