Chicago protesters continue to target Rahm Emanuel, Anita Alverez

Protesters have turned the shooting into a rallying cry, their chants of "16 shots and a coverup" becoming as familiar as "I can't breathe" became after the video that showed Eric Garner being taken down by the NY police officer in a fatal chokehold.

He's reported on the Chicago police department for years; he unearthed McDonald's autopsy and has continued to pursue the story.

"We're here today because there's a problem in the city of Chicago when an officer who has sworn to serve and protect can gun down a citizen for no other reason than he was black", added Hunter, who said McDonald was a "big boy, but he was a teddy bear".

They also urged federal investigations to probe all current and former employees of the Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA), the body in charge of responding to complaints against police officers.

Officers responding to a report of a carjacking at 1:46 p.m. stopped the auto Chatman was driving.

Carson called for police departments across the country to intervene early when suspicions are raised about individual officers. Looks like they had the shots fired, man down out here. He later died of his injuries.

That's what other police officers at the scene say they witnessed the night of October 20, 2014.

Coffman said the officer had not been disciplined for the shooting.

The Rev. Marvin Hunter, who is McDonald's great uncle, said a news conference Friday that "what we're feeling in Chicago is the real feeling of America itself, and that's injustice against people of color".

"The agreement says... we would not release the video unless the officer was not criminally charged", he said.

Officials with Dart's office have said they weren't aware of county officers' involvement until contacted by the Tribune this week.

The story of Laquan McDonald is still ongoing.

"He was running as fast as he could away from police", Coffman said.

More protests are planned for Friday, the religious leaders said.

"This time, must be different". However, even the mayor's ordinary support right here base questions whether or not or not he's doing sufficient to smooth things over in a city in that has been affected by corrupt politics. Days of protests and marches followed, including one on the busiest shopping day of the year that partially shut down the city's most famous shopping district, Michigan Avenue. "She has lost the trust of the people".

A poll of 589 Chicago voters by Public Policy Polling this week found that 51 percent would vote for someone besides Emanuel if the election were held now. "We have to be as one, that's the only way we can fix this". That has to come to an end and end now. Some demonstrators lay down in protest. A judge ordered the city to release the footage last month. The judge intimated in his ruling that prosecutors should have charged Servin with murder, not manslaughter.

Two weeks after a video was released of a Chicago policeman shooting a black teenager 16 times, the mayor of Chicago on Wednesday apologized for it and took some measure of responsibility.
