2 brothers arrested in triple-homicide in Calaveras County

Calaveras County in California is no stranger to bad news, and the news got worse for three unnamed individuals yesterday.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office says it received a report of a shooting Tuesday morning and when deputies arrived at the scene, they found three people dead.

Upon arrival, deputies found three Caucasian men shot to death - two lying on a dirt roadway, and the other lying off the roadway. They were allegedly stealing marijuana from a medical marijuana garden.

According to a Sheriff's Office news release, an investigation revealed that Leon Michael Grammer, 38, who lives on the property, found three trespassers allegedly attempting to steal marijuana being grown for medical purposes.

"Mr. Grammer telephoned his brother, Jeremiah Lee Barrett, 30, of Jackson, and asked him to respond to the property", authorities said.

Grammer fired several shots at the men, then called his brother, who showed up and fired several more shots as the men tried to run away, investigators said.

When Barrett arrived, he confronted the trespassers running on a road near his brother's and allegedly blasted them with a shotgun, according to Eberhardt.

The brothers were interviewed by detectives and booked into jail. Barrett was arrested on murder and conspiracy charges and bail was set at $2.5 million.

Investigators believe the three victims were trying to steal marijuana plants located on the property.
