Fiat Chrysler recalls 143045 vehicles for different issues

Fiat Chrysler says it doesn't know of any related injuries or crashes.

Affected models are 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 1997-2004 Buick Regal.

The company said it is also recalling about 17,127 Ram trucks in Canada, 1,935 in Mexico and 1,390 outside the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) region.

Customers filed at least two complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of smoke and fire.

Including Canada, Mexico and "exports", the total number of affected vehicles is about 1.4 million, GM said. The axles may not have been heat-treated correctly, which Chrysler says may increase wear and overheat the axle, which could lead to wheel separation.

Fiat Chrysler has two different recalls going on, and more than 150,000 vehicles are affected.

Separately, FCA U.S. also said Tuesday it is voluntarily recalling 65,760 Ram 1500 pickups from the 2015-2016 model years due to a potential issue with rear axles.

First, the company is recalling almost 94,000 SUVs because the air conditioning lines are too close to the exhaust manifold and could catch fire. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles noted that most of the pickup trucks are still in dealer hands, and owners who observe an ABS warning light or any other item of concern should contact their dealer.

FCA said it was aware of one accident potentially related to the axle shaft problem in Ram trucks, but no injuries.
