Singer Natalie Cole Dead at 65

In 2010, the Society of Singers awarded her the Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions towards music. She was also nominated for an Emmy in 1992 for a TV performance of her dad's music. Natalie was their first biological child.

A year ago, Freddy Cole spoke warmly about his brother and his own musical career.

Cole continued to record and perform live up until her death.

Born February 6, 1950, Cole first attained chart success in the 1970s, with R&B and funk chart hits like 1975's #1 singles "This Will Be" and "Inseparable", and 1978's "". She did not just battle being a minority in media, which is hard enough, but a longtime addiction to drugs. She documented these struggles in her 2000 autobiography, "Angel On My Shoulder". She'd suffered with numerous health issues recently, including hepatitis C. Cole suffered kidney damage as a result of treatments for hepatitis C, and received a transplant in 2009.

She leaves behind a legacy that will be impossible to forget.

Whatever life threw at Natalie Cole, she kept coming back. "You can go through turbulent times and still have victory in your life".

Cole also graced the small screen throughout her career, appearing in "Law & Order", "Grey's Anatomy" and "Touched By an Angel".
