Sony Has 'About 100 Or More' Titles In Development For PlayStation VR

Palmer Luckey, the leader of the team, working on the Oculus Rift, has recently said that his device offers a lot of value for the attached price and that his company is not making any profit by selling the hardware. It really is a separate market. The Alienware chief said the $1200 X51 system would be available with the Rift for $1600 - saving buyers $200.

During a Q&A following Alienware's announcement of the bundle, Luckey and Azor also defended the "recommended spec" of a GeForce GTX 970 for good VR.

The same thing will happen with VR headsets, but it will take a few years. It's a niche experimental virtual reality gadget, not technology we use every day in our homes or at work, for business, for entertainment or leisure. This expensive price, however, is only for the headset and does not include the expenses for upgrading a PC to make it VR-ready.

Unlike the Rift, however, gamers won't need to shell out for a fully-fledged gaming PC and can opt for the cheaper (yet weaker) PlayStation 4 console.

The firm is predicting that PlayStation VR - formerly known as Project Morpheus - will sell a whopping 1.9 million units before the end of 2016.

The , spotted by Forbes, was swiftly removed and Sony issued a statement, claiming: "This was an error by Amazon, we haven't announced price for PlayStation VR". If you're interested in trying virtual reality, PlayStation VR suddenly looks a lot more welcoming in the shadow of a $600 rival.

"About 100 or more" titles are already in development for Sony's virtual reality headset PlayStation VR, CEO Kaz Hirai has revealed, with more than 200 developers having signed up to the platform holder's VR development program.

This year, expectations from CES 2016 are bigger than ever, with virtual reality taking centre stage. As with all brand-new tech, the starting prices are often through the roof - how much did you pay for your Day One Edition of Xbox One or even your Playstation 3 on release day?
