Flash Flood Watch Issued for North Texas as Storm System Approaches

"You should monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued for your area".

Rainfall estimates from now until Sunday afternoon will range from 3-8 inches, with isolated totals over 10 inches.

Delta County Emergency Management Coordinator Monty Hobbs released the attached East Texas Rain Event map for the upcoming weekend which was prepared by the National Weather Service.

"The ground has a lot of capacity to hold water but we're going to get a lot of rain in a short amount of time", he said. However, a recent report from the U.S. Drought Monitor lists most of North Texas in severe to extreme drought. Heavy rain could result in flash flooding.

Forecasters are predicting flooding and heavy rain following a series of combined weather disturbances impacting parts of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and the south-central United States, according to The Weather Channel.
