Gunner Kiel: Cincy QB Gunner Kiel close to flawless vs UCF

It was flawless football weather, crisp and overcast.

Gunner Kiel was ideal...15 for 15...for 319 yards and 5 TD's.

Washington, from Cleveland suburb Maple Heights, broke the record on his eighth catch of the day: A 20-yard reception late in the third quarter.

Nice standing ovation from crowd. The record had been shared by Mardy Gilliard, LaDaris Vann and Dominick Goodman.

Very cool Washington did it at Nippert, before heading to Houston next week.

"I was talking to Cedric (Thompson) and I said, 'Man, I want this".

Shaq Washington didn't want to postpone the moment.

"It was a unique deal for Shaq to break the record here at home", Tuberville said. Incidentally, that's more than double UCF's average offensive output (257.6 yards per game).

His fifteen completions are the most of any FBS quarterback without an incomplete pass in the last 20 years.

UC moved within one win of bowl eligibility and achieved its first two-game winning streak this season.

Expect the first game of Knights' interim head coach Danny Barrett's tenure to be a loss. That replacement will instead be the coach of UCF's interception-prone quarterbacking corps, Danny Barrett, on an interim basis. I hope I sound realistic and not pessimistic: but there are still no reasonable grounds to believe that Knights will notch a win (not just against the Bearcats, there's no particular reason they should notch a win at all this season). "As soon as they got the first touchdown, you could see it on everybody's face.... they kind of dropped down like we couldn't do it and we can't think like that. It's evident", Barrett said. And you don't hurt anybody but those kids out on the field.

Did every Bearcat in uniform get into the game?

Cincinnati pounced on UCF hard and early, taking just two plays to score on its opening drive - a swift scoring strike aided by a UCF pass interference penalty.

How bad was it for UCF?

Knights' redshirt freshman kicker Matthew Wright struggled with the ball at his foot.

DAYTON - Alex Jeske was 20-of-23 passing for 180 yards and had two total touchdowns, and Dayton (8-0, 5-0 Pioneer) beat Jacksonville (6-2, 3-2).

The Bearcats set an unofficial record for having the most wide-open receivers in college football history.

"I thought the guys up front did a pretty decent job, but we gave up too many easy plays", UCF's Barrett said. Walk on sophomore Chad Banschbach was the leading rusher for the Bearcats with 75 yards on 18 carries.

BIG D: UC wanted to shut the Knights out.

One of the first things Barrett did for the team was give them Monday off, which players say helped. "We can throw the ball up and trust them to go get it".

In the first half alone the Bearcats posted 35 unanswered points and over 400 yards of offense.

Junior safety Zach Edwards (eight tackles) and senior linebacker Kevin Brown (seven) followed Jacobs on the UC tackle chart.

QB UPDATE: UC is 2-0 since Kiel returned from injury and regained his job.

Moore and Kiel also split the playing time in the second half with a quarter each.

"We'll still have a competition".
