PM pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on death anniversary

President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday paid tribute to Indira Gandhi, as the nation remembered India's first woman prime minister on her 31st death anniversary.

"Today, the country's honour is at the stake, as India's glorious history is in danger due to a few communal ideology", she said, indicating that relations with the ruling party are unlikely to improve. The Youth Congress staged a demonstration at Mandi House outside DD headquarters. The Congress also boycotted functions in Parliament for Patel.

"They do not have heroes and icons and therefore they are borrowing them and borrowing them foolishly..."

"Indira Gandhi believed that without empowering the socially backward classes, unity in diversity is not possible" Sonia said while speaking at the Indira Gandhi award for National Integration.

Sharma claimed that the RSS during the correspondence with Sardar Patel had agreed to stay away from politics and to remain just a socio-cultural organisation.

Invoking Sardar Patel's work for national integration, PM Modi announced for his birth anniversary to be commemorated as "Rashtriya Ekta Divas" previous year. While delivering speech on the Rashtriya Sankalp Din occasion, Gaikhangam said that former Indian Prime Miniter Indira Gandhi was a leader who had clear vision.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said, that the land acquisition laws which is kept on hold by Centre needs massive modernisation and upgrade.
