Canucks acquire Emerson Etem from Rangers for Nicklas Jensen, sixth-round pick

Etem was to the Vancouver Canucks for former first-round pick Nicklas Jensen and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 draft. Anaheim seemed like an automatic, considering his California connection, but they moved him the Rangers this summer in the Carl Hagelin trade.

The Vancouver Canucks still haven't committed to keeping Jake Virtanen in the National Hockey League this season.

Etem, who played for Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, was the 29th overall pick in the 2010 draft.

Etem was travelling to Vancouver late Friday and was expected to skate with the team Saturday morning.

The trade for Emerson Etem will have no effect on whether or not Jake Virtanen stays or goes back to junior.

"No, it doesn't", Benning said. "I am not trying to think about it right now, but I want to play here a long time, and if I am going to do that it's going to come down to will, winning puck battles and getting to the net".

Jensen had fallen down the Canucks' depth chart and it had become clear he was not in Vancouver's future plans.

He didn't have a goal in 19 games this season with NY, where he was averaging 11 minutes, four seconds of ice time per game.

Hansen (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve, according to the NHL Media Site. Hansen suffered what the team called an upper-body injury in Wednesday night's win over the Carolina Hurricanes. "Guys have really passed me in a sense and I need to get back on that level consistently".
