College Of DuPage Board Of Trustees Votes To Fire Robert Breuder

The long-embattled president of the College of DuPage is out of a job.

Breuder is asking for a jury trial as well as compensation for any incurred legal costs, among other things. It also says his constitutional rights were violated.

Eight reasons were listed in the resolution as grounds to oust Breuder, including exorbitant spending, lack of transparency and poor financial oversight, which Hamilton characterized as "systematic betrayal of students, faculty and taxpayers - all for insider benefits", according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hamilton is a large focus in the lawsuit, claiming that from the start of her board career in 2013, she has worked with the motive to fire Breuder and reform the school's administration. The board acted following an internal investigation that claimed to have found evidence of "misconduct and mismanagement".

Hamilton and clean slate members view Breuder's dismissal as a new chapter for the college. The suit also explicitly names the four board members who voted to unseat him, Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton and Trustees Charles Bernstein, Frank Napolitano and Deanne Mazzochi, as defendants in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit went on to state Breuder's reputation had been falsely and nationally tarnished because of the "witch-hunt".

Student Trustee Gloria Roark explained that many trustees expected a lawsuit to follow the vote.

"The recent actions of the COD board are illegal on multiple levels - period", Breuder's attorney Martin Dolan said via statement.

The College of DuPage and Breuder have been under fire for months regarding its finances and administrative practices and Breuder has been the subject of public scrutiny regarding a $762,867 severance package the former board of trustees approved, according to the Daily Herald.
