North Texas student, 20, dies after New Year's shooting

Authorities are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a University of North Texas student following a New Year's Eve party.

She was also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, according to its page. Mutschlechner was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Denton Police say Sara and at least 60 other people were at a party earlier in the night.

Police say an SUV carrying men she may have met at the party pulled up next to her near at the intersection of Elm Street and University Drive.

"She was a good kid, the designated driver". After words were exchanged, the people in the black SUV opened fire on Mutschlechner's vehicle, ultimately shooting the girl in the head. However, somebody from the SUV shot multiple rounds at the auto. The victim's auto struck another vehicle before crashing into the pole.

Mutschlechner, 20, was rushed to the hospital, where she died.

The investigation is still ongoing, as more witnesses are being interviewed.

She is now on life support and is not expected to survive.

"We were both going to be film majors; we just about connected on everything", Chaillot said.

Chris Chaillot said he and Mutschlechner immediately bonded at school.

"She was that kind of person that brought you together and made you smile", Chaillot added, "and you never walked away from Sara without a memory, without remembering her. You never forgot Sara".

He said one of their happiest memories was a recent road trip to San Antonio with him, Mutschlechner and another friend he had not known before that trip.
