Tom Coughlin to Giants players: Don't think about my future

Manning noted that Coughlin has not broached the subject of his job security with the team, and the coach maintained that he did not want it to be a distraction as the Giants prepare to face the Eagles at the Meadowlands Sunday in the season finale. Without the dynamic pass catcher, the Giants offense struggled passing the ball badly and Eli Manning looked out of sync. I'm responsible. We lose, I lose the game for our players.

"I am not going down that road, " Coughlin said, asked if had been given enough talent to win. "To see him get in the end zone this year, I was just really excited for him".

That might be easier said than done.

Despite reciting the company line, Manning admitted that he was disappointed that he and his teammates were unable to give Coughlin a potentially better send-off if the 69-year-old head coach and the Giants do part ways. Head coach Tom Coughlin was at a loss for words after the loss Sunday night.

Even Coughlin acknowledged it the day after the game, saying that while he defended Beckham, "I will not defend his actions yesterday because they were wrong and this particular franchise and organization does not tolerate that". "We've put ourselves in position to take the title next week", said Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson who finished the game with 104 rushing yards and a score. So this is how it goes?

With Sunday night's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Giants have another losing season. Kendricks' best play came when he shed center Weston Richburg to aid a run stop up the middle. If Beckham is all this offense has to offer on offense, this team is going to go nowhere pretty quickly. The fact that he hasn't turned into a Christian Ponder-type player who was often overwhelmed is certainly due to Bridgewater's nature and ability, but Zimmer (and offensive coordinator Norv Turner) must also be credited for the second-year quarterback's development.

Manning was intercepted three times against the Vikings.

Manning was one of several Giants players who expressed disappointment they couldn't deliver a better effort on Coughlin's behalf this season. He's been steady down the stretch.

With Peterson relaxing on the sideline, Jerick McKinnon rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including a 68-yard romp through a disinterested defense with the temperature down to 11 degrees. It would be a chance to remind everyone of the joy Coughlin and his two title teams brought, and for fans to thank him as he leaves. Giants LB J.T. Thomas was ejected for fighting with Vikings TE MyCole Pruitt in the fourth quarter.... Simply put, the linebackers disappeared in the second half against the run, which made things too easy for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and friends to march up and down the field easily. Also beyond belief were the two botched onside kicks that went horribly awry. He hardly ever misses a practice and never misses plays.

We all know Tom Coughlin isn't likely to escape the pending ramifications for this very bad season, one that will end Sunday without a playoff appearance, again. It was a complete performance in the "Sunday Night Football" spotlight by coach Mike Zimmer's Vikings, who got embarrassed in prime time in the season opener by the feeble San Francisco 49ers and lost a close one to the formidable Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago.
