Money carrier shot in head outside Orlando-area Publix

Authorities responded to a Publix at the Palm Springs Crossing, near the corner of State Road 436 and Palm Springs Drive just after 3:30 p.m. Investigators said two suspected robbers exchanged gunfire with a Loomis money carrier in the front entrance of the store.

"We would do a very thorough investigation, no matter on age of any driver and that is what we're doing right now", said Rob Pelton with Altamonte Springs Police.

When relatives of Martinez and Altamonte Springs police broke the tragic news to the mother on Wednesday, she claimed she didn't remember the event.

An Altamonte Springs, Fla. woman who was involved in a deadly crash that took the life of her husband and son can not remember the incident, say police. He attempted to return fire, according to police.

Thursday evening the worker's condition was listed as critical.

Police say 75-year-old Cynthia Guthrie didn't hit the brakes before slamming into the family's gold Kia.

The getaway auto was found at a nearby apartment complex.

Altamonte Springs police described the shooter as a black man wearing a long-sleeved plaid shirt with an orange or purple hat, possibly a Phoenix Suns baseball cap. K-9 units were also spotted scouring an area near the store.

The driver, who wasn't identified, was in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the head at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

No other details have been released.
