Golden Globes 2016: Who Should Win, Who Will Win, Who Was Snubbed

Golden Globes voters love throwing the biggest party every year, so it's key that they invite the hottest stars with the biggest names. Up for best comedy are: Amazon's "Transparent", HBO's "Veep", Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black", Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle" and Hulu's "Casual". There are plenty of viewers who will be pleased by the three nominations for "Outlander", Ron Moore's ambitious adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's best-selling romance novels.

As always, though, the HFPA made some smart decisions in its nods for the 2016 event (Jan. 10, hosted by Ricky Gervais) and some totally ridiculous ones-and that's not even including multiple mispronunciations from Dennis Quaid as he read off some of the nominees. In addition to two nominations for limited series "Flesh and Bone", Starz earned two for the feminist historical epic "Outlander"; USA, formerly a place for popular, critic-proof programming and reruns of old broadcast series, broke out with nominations for Best Drama and Best Actor Rami Malek for the acclaimed "Mr. Robot".

was one of three motion pictures to lead the nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards, which were announced early Thursday morning. The others in the category were Michael Fassbender ("Steve Jobs"), Eddie Redmayne ("") and Bryan Cranston ("Trumbo").

On the TV side, they're still playing games with definitions, classifying the ongoing shows Luther, Fargo and American Horror Story as miniseries so they can nominate Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst and Lady Gaga for acting awards.

"To see Mad Max in there in best drama, that proves that a movie that does really well can also do well in the award season", Karger says.

So did Sylvester Stallone for "Creed", giving him a nomination for the same character (Rocky Balboa) who first earned him his last Globe nomination in 1976 for "Rocky".

The Golden Age of Television might also be the beginning of the slow decline of traditional cable and network programming - at least that's what this year's 2015 Golden Globe nominations seem to indicate.

Maggie Smith - Nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture "The Lady in the Van": "I am absolutely thrilled to be nominated for a Golden Globe, and to be in such terrifically talented company".

The Globes nominations were announced a day after the Screen Actors Guild award contenders.

This streaming favoritism was visible throughout the acting categories as well, with Aziz Ansari and Gael Garcia Bernal both picking up nominations for comedy actor (for Netflix's "Master of None" and Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle", respectively) and Lily Tomlin for comedy actress for "Grace and Frankie" (Netflix). "It'll help the movie get out there, '" said Adam McKay, director of "The Big Short".

In the race for best comedy or musical film are The Big Short, Joy, The Martian, Spy and Trainwreck. I just didn't know what to do.

3 stars on the ascendant were nominated along with two veteran performers.

Double nominations for actors and actresses: Breakout star Alicia Vikander should be popping the champagne right now. "I never get such great news while making my son's lunch in the morning!!"

The less-seen animated excellence: Best Animated Feature includes "Anomalisa" (which opens in January), "The Good Dinosaur", "Inside Out", "The Peanuts Movie" and "Shaun the Sheep".
